Nepal - Kathmandu and trekking in the Himalayas
The country of Nepal lies in southern Asia between the countries of India and China. It is best known as home to the Himalayan mountain range which stretches magnificently along the easterly border of Nepal. The country contains eight out of ten of the world's highest mountain peaks, including Mount Everest. Nepal's area is 140,800 sq km, with a population of 26.5 million people. Its major religion is Hinduism, capturing 85% of the population. Nepal is a poor country with the majority of people still working in agrarian pursuits. It's stunning scenery has helped to draw visitors and thus foreign exchange to the country, but recently potential unrest has turned some tourists and trekkers away.
